While on the Boat Show Circuit, Rich became friends with Randy Simpkins, the owner of another like-minded cruising gear company, Technautics, CoolBlue Refrigeration. Randy was looking to retire after starting the company in 1968 and saw in Rich someone with technical skills, a love of the Cruising Lifestyle and Customer Service know how who could take over his long standing company. So, in 2013 after returning to Morro Bay, California from Mexico, so their kids could attend “normal high school”, Rich took over the production, sales and service of Technautics, CoolBlue Refrigeration.

Knowing the industry and other makers of quality cruising gear, Rich was aware of the OzeFridge Eutectic Plate Marine Refrigeration systems made by Peter and Louie MacKay in Australia for over a decade. OzeFridge units were known for their quality and efficiency. Rich had the opportunity over the years to see the units firsthand on real cruiser boats in Mexico.
