There are two main technical reasons that make the OzeFridge eutectic plate systems more energy efficient than cycling evaporation plate systems that are on the market.

The first is a measurement of compressor operational efficiency, known as COP (Co-efficiency of Performance) The term COP defines how much heat is removed relative to the electrical energy consumed. Similar to the miles per gallon rating or efficiency for a car (MPG), the higher the COP for a refrigeration system, the more energy efficient it is.  For example, a cycling evaporation system has a COP of 1.13.  In comparison, the OzeFridge eutectic plate system has a COP of 1.95, for over a 70% increase in system efficiency! 

Secondly, compressor start-up cycles per day.   All compressors consume energy with little refrigeration benefit at start-up as they build up the head and suction pressures to their operation levels. This wasted start-up energy is far less with a eutectic plate system because it only starts-up a few times per day rather than 50 to 100 times per day for a typical cyclic system without the hold over capacity of the Eutectic plate.  This is the greatest cause of inefficiency and would be made worse if cyclic system compressor wasn’t equipped with a soft start controller, which many of them do not have.
 
This test was performed with an off the shelf 5.3CF (150L) chest freezer box with 2.75 inches(70mm) of wall insulation.  Two identical compressor condensing units were set to operate in the same Box.  One was the standard OzeFridge with the medium stainless Eutectic Plate measuring 15.75 inches x 13 inches  (400mm X 330mm) and the second was a standard cycling aluminum evaporation plate also measuring 15.75 inches x 13 inches (400mm X 400mm).

During the two month test period, each refrigeration system was ran consecutively to maintain the box in the desired refrigerator temperature range of between 35.6F and 39.2 (2C and 4C) and controlled via the same digital thermostat. The run period for each system was in 7 to 8 day blocks with the ambient air temperature ranging from 50F to 107.6F (10C to 42C) for both systems. 

Power consumption was recorded and totaled. 
The eutectic system used 4577 Watt Hours.
The cycling aluminum system used 9940 Watt Hours.

The cyclic aluminum evaporation system consumed more than Double the Power over the 30 day period than the eutectic system to maintain the same box temperatures.
The biggest area of inefficiency is the excessive daily start-ups.
